How do I get my puppy to like car rides?
I have a 12 week old Bichonpoo she is a sweetheart. But she wants to be held all the time. This is not possible when I am driving. I put her in a dog booster seat for her safety and mine. She screams the whole time not because she is unhappy in the car but because she wants me to hold her. If I reach over and pet her she is quiet. I go many places and plan on taking her with me how can I get her to settle down and realize this is a time she can’t be held?
Do exactly what you’re doing, only go for really short rides at first. Gradually lengthen the time she’s in the car.
If she’s quiet, praise her if it’s safe to do so.
That’s what I did with my girl and now she loves car rides.
Thank you for properly restraining her. Like you said, it’s safer for the 2 of you, but it’s also safer for the rest of us on the road.
